Telescopes taught us they were other worlds in the distance, sometimes with their own moons, but very little else. With rockets we sent instruments beyond the earth, and began to better understand these other worlds. First to our Moon, then Venus, Mars - our nearest neighbors. Then bolder probes reached out to the more distant gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn
