Description: The United States Senate approved an aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at local time. The legislative package also contains text that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media app does not immediately sever ties with its Chinese parent company. Previously, the US House of Representatives, led by the Republican Party, passed this massive aid on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The Democratic-controlled United States Senate passed the broader package with bipartisan support with a vote of 79-18. The passage of the bill, which also provides much-needed humanitarian aid for Gaza, Sudan, and Haiti, comes after months of heated debate among lawmakers over how or even whether to help Ukraine defend it self.

After being passed by the United States House of Representatives, the aid package bill will then be submitted to US President Joe Biden. Biden himself views the aid package aimed at Ukraine in particular as an important bulwark against Russian aggression.

He has also told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he will sign it into law.

\
