Skip to 01:50 for the start of the pursuit.<br/><br/>On the morning of April 28th, 2024, a sheriff's deputy in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana was dispatched to check on a person who was possibly intoxicated, standing by a vehicle. The deputy first located and followed an older vehicle fitting the description, but was advised that the vehicle in question was a newer model. Shortly thereafter the deputy located and attempted to stop a vehicle more closely fitting the description, but the driver did not stop. The driver turned eastbound onto Louisiana highway 4 and drove toward Franklin Parish at normal rates of speed, up to about 55 MPH (the speed limit), despite the deputy's emergency lights and siren. The pursuit continued for approximately 5 miles before the driver slowed and came to a stop, where he was taken into custody. Curiously, the deputy called for EMS to check the suspect out. After the suspect was cleared by EMS, he was taken to the jail. Curiously, a detective was called to the jail, and someone was taken by police car from the jail to the hospital. That person was at the hospital for over 3 hours before being taken back to the jail. It's unknown whether that was related or not.<br/><br/>Both deputies involved in this have been involved in multiple excessive force incidents, are both co-defendants in a civil rights lawsuit over a very severe excessive force incident, and are both known to be unreasonably violent with people. That is not to allege that they used excessive force on this person, but rather to say that they do have a documented history of doing so with others and that it is always a possibility. It's unknown why EMS was needed in this case. It's possible that the person may have been suffering from hypoglycemia or some other medical issue - I have actually heard reasonable-speed vehicle pursuits in the past where the suspect turned out to be diabetic and their blood sugar was dangerously low.<br/><br/>It is also unknown whether this in fact was the person and vehicle the call was about, or whether the deputy simply saw one that fit the description and decided to stop it for having an \

On the night of April 25th, 2024, a sheriff's deputy in Franklin Parish, Louisiana attempted to stop a Chevrolet Malibu for an unspecified reason, but the driver did not stop. The driver turned into a residential neighborhood and led the deputy on a pursuit at speeds of 75 MPH in the residential area with posted limits of 15 MPH. At one point the driver nearly caused a head-on collision with another motorist. The driver bailed out at the end of a dead-end street and ran into the woods, reportedly armed with a handgun. (It was later determined that he dropped the gun after losing sight of the deputies). The suspect was captured without further incident, after a resident (who may or may not have heard the radio traffic) called in to the SO with information that he was in their yard. Thankfully this incident was resolved without anyone being injured or worse.

Deputies arrived in the area, but quickly forgot about the call or looking for bicycles. One deputy ran the license plate on a random car (not a bicycle...), and decided to stop it. The driver continued through the residential area for less than a mile before coming to a stop, presumably at a well-lit location. (I don't blame him...) <br/><br/>The car had a cancelled/revoked license plate, so he did have legal grounds to make a stop, but remember that they were on a call and were supposed to be looking for bicycles, not stopping random cars. With that information it could be surmised that the traffic stop and everything that followed may have been unreasonable under the 4th Amendment. <br/><br/>They determined the driver had a suspended driver's license, and a K9 supposedly alerted on the vehicle (but interestingly, a deputy quickly told the dispatcher to disregard that transmission). They eventually called for a wrecker, and took the driver to the jail.<br/><br/>They did not find the bicyclists from the call (gee, I wonder why....) and simply called \
